We would like to convey our thanks to everyone for donating in memory of Rita to aid us in our work at The Donkey Sanctuary. We are very grateful to everyone for remembering Rita in this way. We care for over 6,600 donkeys on a daily basis on Sanctuary farms in the UK, Ireland and Europe and this will also enable us to give comfort and medical aid to others less fortunate through our international projects and partners. Our thoughts are with you all.

‘Nanny Rita’ is a name all the children will always remember as being the kindest true Nanny, always there for you, toys in the cupboard, treat for the dogs and a overall a wonderful lady who will always be missed. Boxing Day tea will be sadly missed by us all but a tradition that will live on. Always in our hearts and always remembered - lots of love xx

I treasure the fond memories throughout the years, and I am sorry that I didn't see as much of you as I should have towards the end. I often think of Boxing Day with you and Grandad and the wonderful time we would spend together. I can never forget the Kent quake and all the power going off!! You always made things better with some custard creams and a can of coke. Playing cards with you and Lewis, playing with real money!! (1 and 2ps..) You always letting me play with your jewellery and necklaces, sneaking some home! You always spoilt Lewis and I, making us feel so loved. There are so many times throughout the years and simply cannot name them all. I will hold you in my thoughts and my heart, as I know so many will. Love you Nan, Dominic xx

Rita always had a smile on her face and was a lovely person to know and to talk to, she would always ask how everyone was in the family and will be sorely missed.

Dear Rita, I have so many wonderful memories... I especially remember the many years of Sunday afternoon trips with you and Dad followed by the obligatory 'ham tea' perfectly arranged on the dining table - wonderful! You came to my graduation when I joined the RAF and were so welcoming to Emma when she joined the family. You were usually the first port of call when we made our flying visits to Kent - I remember the long chats over coffee and perfectly arranged biscuits catching up on 'family business'. You were also a wonderful grandmother to Bea - it might have been a long-distance relationship, but I know Bea cherished it. We will miss the annual 'demand' for a new photo! Thank you for all these memories and more... Rest in peace Rita Alan xx

Rita you were a lovely lady who always carried herself well. Will never forget your love of a day out shopping! ( a woman after my own heart) and how immaculately dressed you were , even when we popped in unannounced on one of our visits to Kent . Rest in peace and enjoy those heavenly shops! Rita & David have been such good neighbours and Rita would always be ready to have a chat over the wall. Rita loved to feed the birds and watch them come down to the bird table. She was always imacculately dressed and well turned out. She loved to talk to our dogs 🐕 Rita will be sadly missed but not forgotten.

I am so sad to know that Rita has left this physical world, it’s far too soon and the loss of her leaves behind such an unfillable void. Dave and Rita became my friends just two and a half short years ago during my visits my sister in the last few months of her life. They live across the road from each other and had been friends for many years. They were so kind to my sister over the years and immediately shared that same kindness with me and my family during our own difficult time. It’s so rare to find such selfless people. Just being able to stop by and talk by the garden gate, or be invited in to be given words of wisdom was such a gift, I don’t have the words to express how grateful I am. I consider it a gift to have known you Rita, and rest assured I will be there to support Dave in this time of great loss. The world is truly missing a beautiful soul. Your friend. Andy Mogg

I met Rita well over 50years ago when i went to work at steddy’s the toy shop she was so much fun we had the best times , she lived above the shop , Allison who was a young girl and a credit to her , she also looked after her sister she was always so kind , my main memory of Rita was how she was always immaculately turned out you never saw her any other way , i have many memories of a very dear friend even though we did not see each other in recent years she was a friend you could count on , if i knocked on her door it would be like the years had never passed . RIP Rita no mor pain or suffering lots of love ❤️ xxx

Sleep in perfect peace nan I will love and miss you always I will never forget our conversations and laughter’s that we shared together you brought happiness and love to the family and always had time for others I will never forget the memories of coming to yours and grandad David’s house and always being welcomed with a hug ,can of coke and a packet of walkers roast chicken crisps there will never be a day that goes by where I don’t think about you heaven called for an angel and you was chosen sleep tight nan I will love you always and forever 🤍 love Emily (Em) your great granddaughter 🤍

‘Rita’ my wife for 50 years who supported me and our children through good times and bad. Always had time for, and dearly loved, our eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. We all had a special place in her heart. She loved home life, tending her garden and feeding birds throughout the year. A great protector of all animals with a particular passion to protect donkeys. Rita will be missed by the family and will always have a place in my heart. God bless Rita, it was your time to go to a better place without pain and suffering. Love David xxxx
